Filter Question...

how often do you change a filter cartridge?

It all depends....

What is your current set up? Do you have more than one filter on the tank?

When I had a canister filter, I changed that ever 5 months or so. But not everything at once. The filter contains lots of good bacteria.

I would say, in general once a month is too little but depending on the size of the filter and tank 6 months is too much.

it's a 2.5 gallon tank. the filter is a small whisper filter.

If you are not over feeding i would change it every other month.

I don't keep any carbon in mine and only swish it through tank water once a month, replace every 4 months.

i just find that carbon puts oxygen in the tank and will also clean out any colour in the tank to make it clear

for my bigger tanks i just rinse out the media... they only time u need to change those is when its falling apart! for my small tanks i have to buy that little tetra bio bag things? those i remove once a month
