Warning, Graphite Disease betta at local petco!!

Just an FYI to anyone in the East Tennessee area, I saw a betta yesterday at Petco with the graphite disease. :( Last I had read no-one knew if it was contagious or not, but I thought I'd spread the word in this area. :(
I figured better safe than sorry.
Poor little guy.

Good to know. Also, even if others are not in that area, maybe they should still look out for it, as the fish probably all come from the same few farms and are just shipped to different store locations.

I wondered about that. I was concerned, so I thought I'd let people know. Does anyone know if it can spread from fish to fish, or is it something particular (as in, probably genetic-linked) to the blue guys and can show up at any time?

Stone, yup, apparently we're practically neighbors. ;) I live in west knox. :)

Majestic, the graphite disease is a serious disease that seems to hit blue bettas primarily (or maybe only?), and 99% of the time causes death within 24-48 hours. It starts with the fins going a silvery-gray color (like the gray color of pencil lead, hence the name) in patches, and seems to be a pathogenic-derived necrosis of the tissues both internally and externally. It's awful. :(

I asked one time at my local Petco where the fish are shipped from. The girl went and checked she said they were from San Diego California. I even had the invoice in my hand. At the time I didn't know enough to pay attention to the supplier. I am a few states away from Tennessee. I am going back to that Petco soon. I might try again to get a look at an invoice again.

Wow...I had no idea they were coming that far. I'll definitely ask the next time I'm in there. :(
