Please Help!! Worried new owner!!

This is my male, red VT, Leonidas. I got him April 15 and his behavior hasn't changed at all (he eats normally, likes swimming around his plants and decorations, likes his heater) but I noticed some rather concerning spot/patches on his face near his gills. They are larger on the right side of his face than his left and are a shiny gray/brown/silver metallic color depending on the light. (I scooped him out of his tank to get a quick picture if anyone was wondering why he happened to be in a small container)

There isnt any cottony stuff on him and believe me I tried to get a better pic. This pic was the best I could get, I could try again, he just doesnt like to be still. Im worried that its something else, because the discoloration is more than it used to be, from when I bought him :/ Also, that lower arrow should be pointing to his bottom jaw under his eye (my bad). You can see its a very different color.
