10 Gallon Stocking Opinion

Hi,

The 10 gallon I have now is filled with goldfishes at the moment : P
When the tank is free of use I am planning on doing a sorority of 5 females, 10 red cherry shrimp if I find some and 4 pygmy corydoras or something else to substitute for the cories. What are your opinions?

Sounds a tad overstocked to me, but you should get some more opinions as well :D

You'll need lots of hiding places for the shrimp. When they molt they are extremely vulnerable. I have lots of plants and caves (half-tubes) and shrimp towers. See photos in the 5-gallon question.

Shrimp need a stable, mature tank because they are sensitive to parameter changes; especially pH. I found it out the hard way and lost a ton before I figured it out.

The link below is to a great forum. I've learned a lot and haven't lost nearly as many shrimp as before. You can also buy RCS (Red Cherry Shrimp) a lot cheaper from members than anywhere else.

I have to ask what you mean by, "filled with goldfishes"? Only one goldfish should be a in 10 g.

As for your sorority, I would say the betta girls would be okay, and the shrimp should be fine too (although your girls may eat them). Adding the cories too would put it overstocked.

My ideal Sorority would consist of the "Girls" only. That is just me. As they say.. "one is too many, and too many is never enough" :)
Metaphorically speaking that is, as stocking too much is always too much.

Thanks Russell. I will look into that and I don't think I need the cories anymore.
