School's Prom used bettas as table dec...help one I rescued?

SO my school decided that bettas would make the perfect centerpieces to our Prom theme. I rescued three after the night. Two will be fine, a cambodian CT female with mild fin damage and a red male with the same.

A turquoise male however..I worry about.

Housing
What size is your tank? He's in a cup atm (100% change soon as I got home) because I gave the larger hospitals to the "healthy" two.
What temperature is your tank? Room temp, I suspect columnaris so I don't want to raise his temp.
Does your tank have a filter? No
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? No
Is your tank heated? No
What tank mates does your betta fish live with? None

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish? I have no clue what they fed him
How often do you feed your betta fish? No food yet, he won't eat anyway

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change? I just did a 100% change, no clue what the STUDCO was doing
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? in this size, 100% 2-3x per day
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? Salt (table, non-iodized) and Prime conditioner

Water Parameters:
Have you tested your water? If so, what are the following parameters? No, but my tap water has always been clean. Used it for water changes to my 4 earlier no problems

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? Greyish/brown patches on fins and back, might have white spot near gills
How has your betta fish's behavior changed? Well, he's not moving...but is alive
When did you start noticing the symptoms? As soon as I saw him
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? Yes, salt. He did react by squirming under the salt when I added some extra.
Does your fish have any history of being ill? n/a
How old is your fish (approximately)? He was bought very recently by the StudCo

I know it's not much to go on but I want to try to save him. I can't get to petsmart until tomorrow, what can I do tonight? AM I right in thinking columnaris?

Can you post some pics of him please so the members with more knowledge than I may confirm your diagnosis..

Taken from the stickies section at the top of this forum..

Columnaris
•Symptoms: White spots on mouth, edges of scales and fins, Cottony Growth that eats away at the mouth, Fins rapidly disingrate, starting at the edges
Gray areas around head and gills, As the disease progresses the gray lesions may change in color to yellow/brown/red, Lesions often occur in front of the dorsal causing a “saddleback” appearance, Lethargic, Loss of appetite, Clamped, Gasping for air
•Treatment: There are 2 versions of Columnaris: chronic and acute. Chronic Columnaris can take days to progress while acute can kill within a day. It is contagious so isolate sick fish. If more than one fish shows symptoms then treat the entire tank. Perform daily 100% water change in small tanks or ¾ water change in larger tanks. Make sure to clean the gravel. Treat with Aq.Salt: add 1 tsp/gal Aquarium Salt 3 times, 12 hours apart so that you end up with 3 times the normal concentration. Do NOT raise the temperature as it thrives in temps over 85*F, however, lowering the temperature does not seem to help fight it. Combine salt treatment with Mardel’s Coppersafe, Maracyn I & II, API Erythromycin, OR API Triple Sulfa, combined with Jungle’s Fungus Eliminator (if possible).

I hope this helps..

Mark..

I'm so sorry to hear that... At least he died in clean water, with someone who cared :) I'm sure that meant the world to him

So sorry he didn't make it.

I hate the whole fish as decoration thing. I would be writing a very angry letter to whoever organized the whole event.
Poor fish end up dying because they look "cute" sitting on a table....UGH!

Thanks, guys. I will be putting together some info on bettas/the ones "rescued" by my friend's and I and giving it to the StudCo adviser and the teacher in charge of the prom committee...bit late to take action for this group (other then my surviving two) but could prevent it from happening again...maybe will write to the school board?
