I haven't resqued any hering

But here is the one of the 2 I rescued that lived:

Magnum was kind of an accidental rescue, I didn't notice his
big red "pimple" until after I got him to the register. I bought
him anyway, of course, my first "black" betta! After treatment
with Marcyn 2 the pimple and swelling disappeared and today he is
a normal doubletail

before and after:

My second resque was Remington Steele.
I bought him because half his anal fin was missing.
It didn't take long for it to grow back, a few weeks.
No special meds, just stress coat.

I tried 2 other resques that both died in 24 hours. I think I know what to look for now. If they have a certain look in their eyes and if they barely move, I won't try to resque them. If they are at least a little active and have some life and spirit in their eyes I think they have a chance.

My prom used bettas on the tables as decoration this year (ugh) so I ended up bringing three sick ones home.

Pearl the cambodian female simply has some fin damage and I'm watching some black spots on her fins to see if they are just markings or something more sinister.

A red (with really pretty blue iridescence) VT male named Atlantis, fin rot on his anal and fungus growth on his body. Yay salt. Which reminds me I need to hurry up with homework so I can give him his salt bath and water change.

And sadly, a teal VT male with extremely advanced columnaris who didn't make it through the first night, even with a 100% water change and small salt concentration in the water.

Where I'm from we don't have a PetCo, but we have those pet shops that are determined to put betta's into those god awful plastic cups and too many of them have no idea what they're doing. Duke my VT was a lucky find, he's shy with a gentle nature and he also had those .. Stalker tendencies when he sees you walk into the room. He has grown to be an absolutely beautiful betta.

Here's my story about a wild betta 'rescue'.

One day I went to a fish shop I used to go to quite regularly. Over time I had noticed that the standard of care for bettas had dropped considerably and so I started going there less because it was too depressing.

The owner got some wild bettas in, and when I went there one had what appeared to be columnaris (it wasn't there on our next visit) and the others looked extremely unhappy.

On my return visit, I saw a single tiny B. rutilans nose down in a pot of java fern in one of the display tanks. I think it's partner had either jumped out, been sold or died.

The poor thing was underweight and covered in ich, and so he had to spend three weeks in quarantine for treatment. Once that was finished, he got introduced to my group of B. rutilans and now he is the biggest and most dominant fish in the tank.

This is him today

My most recent rescue-
I was at Petco checking out the bettas as usual. This Petco always has a ton of bettas (big college town so I'm sure they move a lot of stock, one weekend I was there and saw at least 6 bettas being sold) but they care isn't always that great. I had found a bunch of dead ones and was taking them up to the front when I saw a sad little guy with really bad fin rot.
His fins were literally falling off into the bottom of the cup. He was supposedly a delta tail, but you couldn't tell because of the damage.
Lots of water changes, aquarium salt, stress coat, and a nice warm tank, here's Howie before and after. His fins still are a bit ragged, I don't know if they'll ever fill in

I had a really strong urge to post this on Petco's Facebook, haha!
