What is this? Black line in tail.

I noticed Neptune acting "off" yesterday, but I've been so busy with finals I didn't think anything of it. I don't think he ate last night (Monday), and I fasted him Sunday.

Tank size: 2.5 g
Heater: Yes
Temp: 78
Food: Omega one pellets, NLS pellets, frozen brine shrimp (San Francisco brand), frozen glassworms (San Fran brand), frozen bloodworms (Hakari brand). The past week he's had only NLS and Omega One. I've been so busy, I haven't had a chance to thaw the frozen out.
Age: I've had him a year as of Feb 2013
History: He's had tail biting in the past, and has had fin rot in the past.
Parameters: I haven't checked yet.
Water changes: 1 50%, and 1 25% each week, with 100% each month. I changed 100% on Saturday.
He lives by himself:
Treatment: I haven't started anything, but he has IAL in his tank and I use Stresscoat +.

In these pictures you can see that he has a little bit of black in his tail. It's like a couple lines in his tail, but the tail itself isn't broken.

Not for sure, but my white female did that when she started to get color in her fins. Possible he is marbling?

Don't they usually marble when they're younger? He's over a year old, but if that is all it is I would be really happy. He seems to be acting fine now. But, I really want to move him into a divided tank with 2 other males. But, I don't want to risk exposing them to anything.

Yeah, I think it does tend to be the younger ones who do that... Is it worsening/spreading?

I just noticed it today. When he flares I noticed that there were a couple little black dots up farther in his tail too. They are very small, and very hard to see.

Ugh, I wish I could still edit my previous post. I was wondering, could it be bruising? I noticed he got stuck in a plant in his tank (one I don't remember getting, because I thought all the plants were silk). It is a spiky plant that his tail seemed to get stuck in and he had to pull on it to get it free. It didn't seem to rip it, but he had to fight to free himself.

Does anyone know what it might be? I would rather catch something early, than try to deal with it later.
