I have a female betta fish apparantly and i was told that she needs to mate with my male betta because her eggs are rottening inside of her, she looks really bad and i dont think she is going to live much longer;-(..after the male makes his nest and put her in his tank, she just lies to the bottom of the tank and from time to time the male would attack her and then go to his corner, she is really discolored, please make a suggestion..thanking you in advance
First off, I'd separate them right away. Breeding bettas takes a ton of money, time and knowledge of the hobby to be done correctly. Plus, bettas don't really get along with one another, so your male could kill your female.
I've never, ever heard of eggs rotting inside a fish. If the fish is gravid and there's no one to spawn with, she'll just absorb the eggs back into her body and recycle the material she used up to produce them.
Could you describe the symptoms of your fish? Is she bloated looking? Do her scales stick out so that she looks like a pinecone? A picture is worth a thousand words when trying to figure out what's wrong with a fish.
dont breed w/out doing TONS of research and having everything prepared. I have never heard of eggs rotting inside either, many breeders actually remove the female before the male takes all her eggs just so they dont have as many fry. could you get a pic and describe symptoms?
****take her out of his tank and put her in her own****
***breeding is also very hard for the fish and rather stressfull, if she is ill its the last thing you want to do.
ok, well i had a feeling that couldnt be the case either, i removed her immediately after realizing that them being together was no good..firstly the fish is really discolored and bloated, she stays at the bottom of the tank all the time( i dont have a heater yet but this has never affected her before) and is breathing very heavily, yes her scales are also sticking out and is not eating at all, i even tried giving her the shrimp to eat instead of pellets.I have tried attaching a photo but its not allowing the extension of the file..hope my description helps
oh my gosh..you really think its that bad?.. i cant understand how this could happen..what do think could have caused this desease(dropsey?)..i dont know if i can do than euthanizeing thingeyyy...but if that is what it takes for him to stop being in pain then i have to try...
Various things can cause it but usually it's kidney failure from a nasty bacterial infection and it causes the fluid they would usually expel to build up and they get so round it causes the scales to stick up (pineconing). The popeye you are describing is usually caused by poor water quality but can also be just another sign that your betta is very very sick. You could TRY to give her an epsom salt bath to see if she'll expel some of the fluid but the odds at this point are very much against her, especially since she's got the stress of being beat up by the male on top of that.
As for euthanizing her, I know it sucks royally but it sounds like she's "on her way out" anyways so it's much kinder and really more peace of mind for you to help her.
