Betta hanging out at bottom of tank

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and betta's. My friend gave me a .5gal tank a while ago and last week I went out and got a male half moon betta. My mom was talking to her friend who had a tank he wasn't using anymore and she brought it home. So, today I cleaned and washed it out. Put the water conditioner in it and all that stuff. When I first put my betta in there he loved swimming around and looked like he was having a ball. But, now, I see all he is doing is hanging out near the bottom of the tank near the heater I put in.

Is this normal? Originally when I got him last week he was fine in his little tank but, now in this bigger one he doesn't seem too happy. I hope the little guy isn't sick or anything I just got him. Thanks for the help!

Is the tank heated? Bettas are less active when the water is cold. How big is the new tank? How often are you cleaning it?

The tank is heated I bought a new heater for it and its a 2.5gal I know I should have a bigger tank but right now I really can't afford one. Its better than the .5gal I had him in before. I just cleaned it once since I set it up today.

2.5 gallons is perfectly fine! That's a great size for your betta. What is the temperature of the tank?

Maybe he is just getting used to the new tank? My betta sleeps near the bottom of the tank at night. When I wake him up iin the mornings that is always where I find him before he does his morning dance. Another idea is maybe there is residue from the tank cleaning?

I don't think so. I used water to clean it. I remember when my ex had her's I could have sworn her saying you can't use soap or anything cause it's bad for the fish. I cleaned off all the fake plants and rocks before I put them in. I did get a live plant for his tank too. Not sure if that would do anything to the water.

Is it filtered? If so he may be annoyed with the current...
2 of my 5 betta's enjoy the filter current but the others were stressed by it so I had to baffle their filters.

Nope, no filter. Maybe could he be just almost in shock from going from one tank to another? I mean I did switch his tank almost 3 hours ago I'd think he would be used to his new one by now.

Well, right now he seems to be doing better. I caught him hanging out in his new live plant hammock hahaha. But, I'll keep an eye on him. Don't want anything happening to my new buddy.
