Unhappy Dropsy?

My male black devil crowntail is pineconing, and has been lethargic for a week.. he is holding onto life by a thread right now, I can tell just by the way he is acting.. someone said he may have dropsy, and i've only ever heard of it. So if someone would please explain to me what it is and if its hereditary. if not, what can I do in the future to prevent it?

I'm sorry your CT is ill.

Dropsy is a symptom of various diseases. It's not a disease in itself.

Pineconing often indicates problems such as internal organ failure. Again, it's not a disease in itself, but is often a late-stage sign of disease.

Again, I'm sorry that your CT has this.

Thank you so much. I woke up this morning and he was gone. I knew he wouldn't last much longer just by the way he was acting..... im not trying to sound careless, but its time to save another..... he lived in a good heated, filtered, and aerated tank; but now it is time to save another. you cant save them all, but you can save some, which is beter than none.
