My fish is sick, I think

I have had my betta for a little over a year now. About a month ago my fish started getting stuck at the top of his tank. I bought a new tank because I thought maybe it was the filter, but that wasn't it. He cant swim down and he is pretty much stuck on his side. He can still swim fine but he is stuck. I was feeding him 5 pellets a day, someitmes more becuase he is a slow swimmer and wouldn't get the food before it hit the bottom. But I cut him down to 2 pellets for about 2 and a half weeks now. He is still stuck though! What do I do?

It sounds like your betta has swimbladder disorder. Its usually caused by overfeeding or not having a well balanced diet. If you feed him once a day, try feeding him twice a day, 2 pellets each time. I would get him some pellets that float, like Hikari Betta Bio Gold. You might also try varying his diet by feeding him freeze dried bloodworms or freeze dried brine shrimp as a treat once or twice a week. Hope this helps.

until his disorder goes away i would feed him NOT the Freeze dried bloodworms/brine shrimp but the frozen kind. they are more nutritious.

they usally come in cubes, so what i do is put the frozen cube in a little [tank] water in a dish. stir the cube around until some of the food comes off (about a small pinch) then feed it to him with your fingers or toothpick or somthing.
