Ernesto's tail is disappearing! HELP

Hey there...

I noticed last week that Ernesto's fins looked a little ragedy...so I did a scrubdown/100% water change on his 2 gallon tank last Sunday (I usually do a 50% 2X weekly).

I noticed this morning that his back fin looks like a bite had been taken out of it...(he is a lone fish dictator in his tank). I think that it is finrot, and do not know how to take care of it other than water changes! Help!

BTW, He is active and eating just fine, so it perplexes me.

How big is your tank? Can you post water parameters?

I would never recommend a 100% water change or a complete "scrub down" Thats the worst in a situation when you have a sick fish.

Treat with melafix and maintain good water quality and you shouldn't have a problem.

2 Gallon tank (he is the sole proprietor)

Temp: 78-80 degrees
Amonia:0
Nitrites: 0
Nitrates:30
Ph: 7

Again, he seems active...will the fin regenerate?

your water params are great exept the nitrate a bit high. but doing a water change can get it down to under 20.
his fins will grow back. just mantain good water quality to help speed up the process.

Yes, his fin can regrow, though it may never be quite as pretty as it once was.

Your water paramaters seem a bit wonky to me if you just did a 100 per cent water change. Are you using test strips or the drops? They are great readings for a cycled tank that receives partial water changes.

How long has the tank been running? Is it filtered? What kind? Did you cycle the water first before adding Ernesto?
