my betta fishes chase each other around

My male betta fish which I have had for two weeks keeps chasing my new female fish. When he chases her he opens his gills. He has also been blowing bubbles since I brought him home. My new female betta fish always stays close to the top of the bowl. Why do these things happen? :)

You got two bettas in the same tank???
if so you must seperate them asap, one of them (perferably the male) has to go into another tank. you probly know that 2 males together is a no-no, but even though ones a female the male will usally harrass her (or somtimes the other way around) because the females not in the mating condition.
how long have you had your fish?

They most definitely need to be separated.
