I've been to petco today and bought a betta. they told me to feed him 2-3 pebbles twice a week!! and to clean it once a week

Its more like 2-3 pellets twice a day. If he's in a gallon container, his water needs to be changed twice a week.

yep, I agree with Dramaqueen, unless he/she has a filter. if they are in a tank/bowl smaller than a gallon, please move them up to the largest tank possible! Bettas get bored easily so you should have some decorations and substrate. Bettas can live without filters and heaters, but do best is they have a 2.5g or larger tank/bowl with a filter, heater, and decor.

the water temperature is supposed to be 74-82 degrees

Some say that 74 is rather on the cool side but mine are at about 74 with no heater.
