I was cleaning my fish tank yesterday, doing a 50% water change, and must have looked away for a second because suddenly my betta was gone. I looked everywhere and finally found he had been sucked up in the siphon I was using to clean the tank! He was at the very top of the thick, hard plastic part of the tube, right where it turns into a small rubber tube.
I got him out as quickly as I could and returned him to the tank. He would not eat last night and today is only eating about half what he usually does. His colorful fins seem a little bit faded and rumpled today, I sure hope he returns to the way he was.
I've certainly learned from this accident, no more having the TV on or looking away when I'm cleaning the fish tank, this will never happen again!
