fin biting

My beta's anal fin was looking ragged so I changed his tank decor from a large somewhat coarse rock to a small tree. Now that fin and his caudal fin are very short. Is he tearing them or could he be biting them? If he's biting them why and how do I get him to stop?

It could possibly be fin biting. What kind of betta is it? standard viel tail? crowntail? what kind? We need more info and maybe a pic in order to really say something

Bettas bite their own tails?

they can. especially those of the half moon tailed because there tails are so long
