pH levels in my tank

My tank has a reading of 7.8 for pH. This is straight from the tap without modification. Is this a good level for bettas or do I have to lower it? My tank is 10 gal with a heater, filter, sand bottom (but it doesn't appear to effect the pH)and a few plants attached to rocks. I boiled the rock for 3 mins before putting it in the tank.

Bettas are fairly adaptable fish. While it is recommended to keep them in water that is soft/neutral, a pH of 7.8 is fine. It is better to leave the pH as it is, then to try and aim for the 'perfect' value.

One word of warning, watch the rock you are using, isn't one to push your water hardness and pH up. Some rocks such as limestone, will, so it is something to be mindful of.

Thanks for the word of warning. So far the rocks don't appear to be effecting the pH either. I tested the water before placing it in the tank and its been the same with the addition of the rocks and sand.
