Some times a small lamp over the bowl or tank helps. you would need to keep an eye on thermometer to see that the water did not get too warm. What is the current temp?

I just recently got heaters for my 1 gallon tanks. I forget what brand it was but I believe they are 7.5 watt heaters and they work lovely. There is no thermometer on them so I bought one but they do a great job at keeping the 1 gallon tanks warm. Youjust have to keep your eye on them in case the ambient temp gets above like 75. I got them at PetSmart but they were up at the very top of the rack. http://www.amazon.com/HEATER-Aquariu.../dp/B0006JLPFE is the one. They were 13.99... or 12.99 I can't remember.

Here's one: http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsUS...d10wminiheater

Never use a light to heat the bowl. It has to get turned off sometime for the betta to have night cycles and causes temp swings. Also, never put in warmer water than your tank is capable to keeping warm. It also just causes big temp swings and can be a huge shock to your fish.
