Ok, guyzles. It's time. Time, that is, to decide once and for all what I want in my Amazon tank as my centrepiece fish. I present to you, for your voting pleasure, the shortlist!
But first, a little tank detail:
Dimensions: 14.5w x 14.5d x 18h (inches)
Capacity: 16 gallons (ish)
Filtration: Fluval U1 and U2 (total 45 gallon rating)
Substrate: white sand with a covering of IAL
Decor: twisted goldvine, rocks
Intended inhabitants: 8 ember tetras, 8 pygmy cories
Lighting: dim, filtered through tannin-stained water
The shortlist for "centrepiece fish":
- some form of spectacular male betta splendens
- blue ram pair
- gold ram pair
- cockatoo cichlid pair
- macmasteri dwarf cichlid pair
- betta channoides pair
To me, each set has a distinct advantage. The betta splendens because, live everyone here, I have an addiction to their incredible beauty. All the cichlids are both beautiful and are Amazon natives, so would thrive in my setup. Finally, the betta channoides would be a wonderful step into the world of wild-type bettas, and should do pretty well in my setup. All of the pairs have the advantage of potentially spawning for me, which would be spectacular. But I don't know what to choose! Help me!
I would love to know your reason, too. :) I'll submit a picture of my tank as soon as I can get a good one.
