So bettas are not colorblind?

And will he be able to hear the shaking of the food?

Also, I've noticed with all the betas I've had, they like to go behind the filter. Do they do this because there isn't enough hiding places in the tank?
Mine does the same thing and he has plenty of hiding spaces. he likes to sleep behind his filter at night. its cute. I wonder if it has something to do with the vibrations....

You can play with different pen caps. Bowser hates blue and blacks but not red.

I don't agree with anything other than a betta and shrimp in a 5g (unless you divide it and put in 2 bettas) a pleco would be way too much for space and bioload. Amano shrimp will eat algae and are big enough to fend off a hungry betta but I don't think it will clean waste perse..

For a couple of dollars you can get a small gravel vacuum. It is the best. It use to be a real pain to clean the gravel and I would put it off too long but now i just stick the tube into the gravel and it sucks out debris and the gravel falls back down! And I no longer have to dip the water out for watch changes as it is siphoned out as it sucks!

I shake my food canister in front of my betta and open the tank lid and he gets excited and knows to meet me up top and wait for his couple of pellets. They catch on quick! They like to be watched and admired and start to show off for you. Moss balls can be entertainment for them.

Amano shrimp is ghost shrimp, right?

How often will i need to clean the gravel?

I just fed him, and to get his attentions I lightly tapped his tank, and he came straight to me.

Amano shrimp are not ghost shrimp. shrimp are very sensitive and need a well established home. Do you have the tank cycled?

Amano are browner than ghost. They're a lot hardier as well.

What size tank is it again? Gravel cleaning should be done every second water change if it's a cycled (or half cycled) 5g or larger.

Where could i purchase amano shrimp?

I have a 5 gallon filtered tank.

Well, it is cylcing now, but shouldnt take long at all because i used the same substrate that already had bacteria in it. And the filter as well.

I should have phrased it as cycle-in-progess lol

Amano's you can get in specialty stores or ebay or aquabid. Someone here recently just had fire red cherries delivered off an ebay seller.

I only ever clean the gravel in my 5g with turkey baster so.. I do once a week.
