Well I'll Be Darned!

I never thought about it!

Mercury is a Double Tail PK! And I never new until today when I was looking at him!

I thought nothing of his larger finnage and a few stubby spikes at the dorsal that looks suspiciously like a DT's would.

I took a closer look today and boom! He's a DT! I think he may also have some EE in him as well but he's not full on, just showing some traits. He does have larger pectoral fins and they are opaque but not large enough to be EE.

I can't believe he is a DT all along and I never noticed! Of course, he's got so much finnage that they overlap and you can't see the line until you look closely but it does split all the way to the body. I tried to get some good pictures today of it so y'all can see and tell me if I'm blind or not haha.

You can see where he's got like three...not sure what to call it, but where the fins branch out from. Generally I know DT's only have two, one for each lobe...but he's got three. Not possible he's got three lobes right?

This is what I see most of the time, can't even see a split really.

It's blurry but you get the idea about his pectorals. Maybe some EE's down in his linage?

This one is hard to see but he literally splits right in half. If you follow from his mouth and down his spine, you can see where the split is and see a bit of the top lobe overlapped behind the bottom lobe. I know it's a stretch here.

Here's a much clearer one where you can see the split.

Blurry again but you can see where the light hits the top of the bottom lobe.

I'm not going crazy right? Right???

I can see the splits, but the other really telltale sign of a DT is the shortened body, and that he definitely has, it couldn't get any clearer in your last photo!

Yeah! When I first got him I figured he was a huge mutt between a DT, HM, EE, and maybe some Rose tail down the line and when I asked no one ever really answered me. And that was about three months ago and I just never really bothered to look closely like that again lol.

But thanks, makes me feel less crazy XD

he's a very handsome fellow! I actually used to not like DT's at all, because of their spines being deformed, but since I adopt deformed fish all the time, I can't be so judgmental. lol

I got a little DT from Aemaki, and I seem to have fallen in love with them.

Back on topic, I wish I could tell you about the spikes on his fins.

Thank you! I saw him in this tiny bowl, like it always starts and I picked him up. He flared at me and then he followed me home.

And what do you mean by the spikes? Are you talking about the normal stubby spikes that DT's have or the spikes that his entire finnage takes on?

I can definitely see all the signs of a DT in him although I can't say much about EE. What I can say for sure is that he's a stunner though, really c:

Gosh, I know right? It's like a little puppy following you home for some food, you just can't resist!

And yes! I have no idea about the spiky fins! They are edged in white so at first I thought maybe regrowth but it seemed way too much white. And then I realized it was just the way his fins are. So many some CT in his linage? But I wonder how they became spiky since CT, even Combtail and Halfsuns aren't spiky in that sense, you know? I really wish I did know his parentage at least because he is so unique! I don't even know what to classify him as sometimes!

Okay so he's a DTHMPK so far, I don't think the ruffling makes any sort of Rose and then in which would not make a feather tail. But he's definitely got excessive branching going on. No idea what to make of him lol

Also would you classify his color as Metallic or Copper? I feel like he's not dark enough to be a Copper, nor is he "coppery" but maybe Metallic? Because, unless I'm missing something, I don't know where to put him for color either!

Copper is metallic but yep hes a copper for sure I love how his pectorals are coloured too. His fins kinda look a little too long to be pk, he could be a young hm...but I could be imagining things lol
