Exclamation Baby Betta Over Memorial Weekend

I have an urgent question. I will be going to my cabin for two full days over memorial weekend. Will a baby betta be okay without food for that long, or should I get a critter keeper and take it with me? I have a heater that I can bring too.

It takes a long time to starve to death. 2 days is nothing.

If your tank is not cycled, that would be your main concern.

It is a .5 gallon that gets 50-75% daily water changes. I feed 2 pellets 2 or 3 times a day. I'm not sure how it would do if I left it here over the weekend.

It will be fine. Just think of the condition it used to be in: Petco cup, feeding and water change once a week.

Thought babies should be fed daily, 2 days without food and water change should have miniscule effects on its growth.

It should be fine, feed it a normal amount before you leave and when you get back. That will be less stressful then moving it.

I wouldn't feed it anything before you leave - no need to increase the amount of waste in the tank. The fish will die of ammonia poisoning long before it starves.

It's a baby. Assuming it is the standard size of the petco-sold babies, it is definatly not going to poison itsself in two days. I'm a breeder, so I know that to babies, being full is more important then water quality short term. They starve quite quickly, unlike the mature fish of this species.

I suppose "baby" is relative. There are no petcos around here. Is it a fry? Because fry are quite sensitive to water quality. Just how big is a standard petco-sold baby? How do you know it's a petco fish? It is just a half gallon container.....
