Mah Betta needs a friend

Are there any fish I could put in with a male betta fish that won't conflict with it? I leave alone every day and feel really bad. I think he's depressed. He's really strong - he has gone through two owners that didn't want him and has lived in tupperware with my brother in a college dorm. I'm his friend but I can't be with him 24/7.

(This was posted by a friend... not me so I can't really respond to questions. She's a tad over-dramatic...)

Lol well how big is your tank? I can't recommend anything without knowing the size of the tank because it could in the long run make your bettas life worse. Have you looked at the betta care sheet? If you take a look you'll notice the minimum tank size for a betta is 2.5 gallons... Thats with no other fish. They also need a heater and a filter works great for you (less tank cleaning). For the most part when kept in a small tank pretty much the only things bettas get along with is african dwarf frogs or mystery snails. But it greatly depends on your betta... Some bettas pay no attention to their roomies while others would try to kill their new found 'friends'

Bettas are solitary fish and will do well on their own and don't necessarily "need" tankmates. If you have a big enough tank, you could add something else but he'll be fine on his own.
