what kind of plants can you use in the bowl of beta's.

most people use ivy. can you use what they call airplane plants.

I've never heard of airplane plants?? Java fern and java moss should work well; they are fully aquatic.

Just to verify; you do know that bettas can not live off the roots of a plant right? They also need a heater, clean water, and a minimum of a 2.5 gallons tank.

I would use bamboo because it somehow gets rid of algae and it is the only plant that grows in water.Betas can live in very small places.I have mine in a old washed out vase.He is doing fine.

Bamboo is not at all the only plant that grows in water. In fact, it cannot grow fully submersed. This is a big problem for bettas, because it means you cannot have a lid on your tank in order for the top of bamboo to stick out and the fish can then jump out.

I agree with Kim - java fern and java moss can grow even in unlit tanks and are pretty impossible to kill, so are ideal for small, dimly lit betta tanks and beginners to plant keeping alike. There are dozens, if not hundreds of other plants available for your aquarium that have more care requirements such as specialized lighting, fertilization and even CO2 added to the tank.

Is it okay to add plant fertilizer to a betta tank? I bought some API root tabs and their website says they are safe but that is a general statement.

They are safe, if they are from API... Also, I agree with Batman And Kim, 100%. Bettas need a lid so they don't jump out, they need a heater, so they don't get cold and become lethargic, they need a filter to pick up all the detritus and fish poo left behind, and IMO, a tank of minimum 5gallons.

BAMBOO IS NOT THE ONLY AQUATIC PLANT!!! Just making sure you reread that... There are so many other species of aquatic plant, I can't remember them all......... There are at least 600 species of aquatic plant currently known... And many of them can be bought from your LFS, if it is a quality fish shop... and I agree with Batman again on the amount of aquatic plants their are.........................................

airplane plants are the same as spider plants. I'm not sure if they can be purely aquatic but I don't think so.

yes, my boy Blue bandit started a habit of jumping over the stick that attached his feeder ring before he got his food.
had to remove it as i didn't want him to think it was ok to jump all the time like that :O

just want to add..........
a tank of 5-10 gllns for a betta would be lovley,as lets face it
who would want to live in small space.......not nice.
and the advantage of the bigger tank is you can add more plants
and it makes a beautiful feature in your home/dorm.
