^ yup. He's probably jumping because he's uncomfortable. Bettas really do best at a temp. of 78-80, so you can see that 65 is like living in antarctica to him.

A little explanation: unlike humans and other warmblooded animals, fish are coldblooded creatures. This means that they can't regulate their own body temperatures; their metabolism is controlled by the temperature of their environments. A betta living in 65 degree water is going to be very sluggish. He will also have a greatly compromised immune system. Getting him into a bigger tank with a heater and a gentle filter as soon as possible would be a big help.

he is doin fine now i have put a heater in his den n his popeye is gone but i still feel that he cant see with one eye......

Be careful, a heater in anything smaller than a 5 gallon can be very dangerous! You can burn your beta. Also popeye is often a result of inadequate water conditions. Meaning your water is dirty, I mean in most cases that's the case. A container with less than 1 gallon needs to have a 50% water change 2-3 times per week. To avoid future problems you NEED to get a 2.5-3 gallon tank. Bigger is even better. If I were you I'd get a 10 Gallon tank and get a diffider in the middle (they sell them in pet stores) this way you can keep both betas in the same tank while having them seperated.

I ahve a female betta fish, and I was wondering if it would be safe to place her in a 1.5 gallon with a Whisper filter& heater. Is that okay?

I don't know if you can safely heat a 1 and a half gallon tank or bowl. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I'd like to heat my 1 and a half gallon acrylic tank too.

I asked my nephew ( he manages the fish department in Petco) and he told me that heaters are not safe for any tank under 5 gallons and should only be used with a glass tank. They do have heaters taht are rated for smaller tanks but usually just leaving a lamp on should be enough to heat the water to the proper temp. Just get an external temp strip to ensure that the temp is correct.
