I've had a read at so much information online about the care of Bettas and I'm a bit confused about what to do/what not do.
A little while ago I brought the 'office' Betta fish home and it was living in a tiny little bowl (not purchased by me).
I then moved him into a larger (still pretty small) tank that wasn't heated/lit in anyway.
I've now moved him into a 5 gallon tank with a filter, live plant, hiding places and heater.
Most of the time he is incredibly active, practically jumping out of the tank when I get up in the morning and feed him.
The past few days he has been curled under his bridge or lying elsewhere on the bottom of the tank. When I feed him now he eats normally after I give him a little shake on the glass.
The areas of confusion for me are that I've read that water changes are harmful for the fish and shouldn't be done and in other places I've read that they should be fully changed weekly.
I clean out the filter every day or so and also top up the water but I am so concerned that I'm doing something wrong. I've become so attached to the little blighter! Also, I don't actually know how I'd physically manage to change the tank.
His living conditions now, compared to what he had before, are like the Ritz compared to sleeping rough.
Also, I only feed him (and he has only ever been fed) flakes. He seems to like them and really goes for them when they go in in the morning. My husband is very squeamish about me giving him dead/live worms so I haven't done that.
Any advice on what I am doing wrong? Thanks! (I can post pics of his tank if needed).
