Strange...female bubble nest ?

Whoa, I don't know how this is possible, but one of my females is blowing a bubble nest. I am pretty sure she is a female because she has an egg spot and has the shorter female fins and body. She is in a separate 1 gallon container next to other females (her sisters) in 1 gallons and is out of sight of her male brothers. Hmmm, anyone have any ideas what is going on?

I have heard of females blowing bubblenests and even of raising fry! Mine will blow a few bubbles every now and then but not a real nest.

"She" might not be a she after all. A plakat male might have been labled as a splendens female by mistake. It's a long shot, but so is a female blowing a bubble nest.

I have heard of females blowing bubble nests. Even more funny is that several people have reported that their female bettas release eggs and put them into the bubble nests that they made!! If she has an egg spot and is fully grown, then she is definitely a she. Bettas do the funniest things :)

I would think a Plakat as well, but there is an egg spot from what the poster said.

I agree with the others about seeing females blowing bubble nests, though. It is probably fine.

Actually I bred them myself, the female is one of the fry, they are now 4 months old, though and most are larger than the ones you see in the pet store. So maybe its possible but rare to get a plakat from mating two veil tails. I didnt think of this, I will do more research and post results soon.

Didn't realize you were breeding them, thought you'd bought her at the store.

Wow, my female blew a few bubbles, and layed an egg or two in to it, and left the rest of the eggs to rot... then i cleaned it... kinda odd...
