Need help baffling a filter

So I ended up buying a 5 gallon desktop tank for my betta and need some advice on baffling the filter. It's the Fluval Spec V, so it came with all its own stuff. I have the pump on the lowest setting, bet Oswynn still seems to be struggling a bit with the current.

This is the nozzle of the output:

It's hard to see the input, but there is a grate next to the outflow that I can't figure out whether he just likes hanging out next to it or if the flow is pulling him that close. Anywho, I've seen the water bottle method for the HoB filters, but that just won't apply here. Anyone else have any tips or tricks?

A sponge tied over the outflow with a zip tie should solve the problem.

I put some filter foam inside that little nozzle there by taking screwing it off, stuffing the foam inside, then screwing it back on! It cut down on the flow alot.

Thanks, These suggestions are great, but the flow going inside the filter is still pretty strong. I put food down for him and it gets whisked away.

You should be able to feed your betta one pellet at a time so none of the food gets wasted. Mine learned to come to the top and I drop one at the time as they eat them and I have no waste that way.

Hrm, ok, I'll try that then, though it's tedious for me, especially when I have to rush around on the mornings I have work ><;

Well yeah, of course, and I don't mind at all making time for them, but bettas are not strong swimmers, and he gets tired having to chase his food right to the filter grate, even if I just drop the one piece down at the farthest point from the filter. I have the pump on the lowest setting, but the current going into the filter seems to still be way too strong.

You may want to just stop using that filter if it's that powerful and drop in a sponge filter and be done with it.
