I am quite pleased with my 20 gallon jungle. Black Tahitian moon sand for substrate, occasional flourish comprehensive dose, 1 Flora Sun 15w T8 and Nutrafin Natural Plant CO2 system (same as diy)
Kinda cheating since there are no Bettas, but I had to share :) 3 Platy, 1 female guppy and 4 day old guppy fry. Originally there were 3 Platy, 4 guppy but 3 guppy died. One from the filter, one from illness due to the stress of harassment and one after giving birth. I've given up on those fragile petstore fish. I'm just going to raise my own from now on.

lol I have a dwarf red lily plant in my 55 gallon that grows like crazy. It sends up a lily pad per day. Every week I have to pluck off at least 4 lily pads (don't want them to block too much light), and it still leaves 4 or 5 in there.

Hm. I have an NPT with clay from my backyard, and I haven't tried fertilizing it whatsoever. I'd love for the plants to grow better. How often do you use the Flourish and CO2?

the flourish comprehensive i have used maybe once a week? 2.5 ml dose for a 20 gallon. so i guess i have dosed it twice? the c02 is a natural system that is always going. you basically have this container outside the tank with baking powder, yeast, sugar and warm water. it is sealed up tight and an airline tube is connected to it and fed into the tank where it connects to a bubble counter. so its always going. it does not dispense CO2 at the same amount as a traditional CO2 system. this a natural system for a low tech tank. I use Nutafin Natural Plant System.

I have some baby Platys because A friend up the road gave them to me for free lol. I have three for now Platys are the biggest game of lets see how many we end up with.
I'm inclined to agree with your sister lol Those plants have taken off and they look great. I hope I have that much luck with plants.

Guppies and Platies both seem to be part of the same game haha
My advice with plants is do lots of research and only get plants that suit your situation. Live with in your means and plant with in your means :)
