All bettas in my country are petstore or bred from petsore bettas because we arent allowed to import from top overseas breeders. As a result almost no colour breeds true. Im up to F3 and still seeing weird colours eg black x copper = cambodian lol

But as long as the fish has good form and are healthy and you arent breeding mutts with no purpose then I see no problem. No point breeding ugly fish that nobody wants though.

Usually the breeding doesn't go wrong, but fry care can. I lost my first spawn to velvet in the first 5 weeks before. It takes a few times, especially if you have no one there to help you. I was getting information from a breeder, and Ive been hearing a lot of contradicting answers. I also spent a lot of time on different websites, so maybe it's luck. My other spawn, the male ate most of the eggs, but I was able to save the last few. And my current spawn I started with 200+ but down to 30. So I'm still learning my self even though I've been spawning/researching for 2 years (I do not spawn in the winter) so until I get a little better I'll be spawning a pair at a time. And I may buy a male tonight and see if he'll have some good looking fries :)
