Sand versus gravel

I know this has been talked about in the past, but I'm wondering... Why do you chose sand/gravel for your tank? Does it depend on the fish? The decor? The maintenance?

I have gravel, but I don't really like it, mostly because of the color XD Thinking of switching to a npt.

I use sand. I started using sand for my community tank because I had cories, but even when I had a betta tank I still used sand. I like the look, I find it easier to clean, and easy to plant in.

i have both, and i like them pretty much the same. sand is easier to clean, but i like gravel better for holding plants down(i have fake plants in my gravel tank though). sand moves a lot when i do my water changes and my plants(real plants) become uprooted very easily.

It's really just a personal choice. More looks than anything. Each has it's good and bad points.

I like sand because it's easier to get your real plants to stay in before they have a root system. Also, it's better for catfish if you have any. I personally think it looks nicer, too.

The gravel damages their barbels.. And they like sifting through the sand.

And NPT is Natural Planted Tank :)
