alge in tank

I have a 10 gal. tank. The tank is equipped with filter, heater, gravel, silk flowers and one betta fish. The problem is my flowers ect. are beginning to get covered with alge. What can I do to remedy this?
I changed the filter as soon as I saw the growth. My other 10 gal tank which is about 2 months younger is showing no signs of alge and I don't want any in it.
I test my tank periodicaly and numbers are coming out okay.

it may not be algea. I occasionally have dark green/black residue on my rubber plants closest to my filter and I have conlcluded that it must have been from a filter that i did not soak thuroughly prior to installation. It maybe carbon residue from your filter. Try taking them out and washing them mechanically with hot water (no soap).
