Welcome to the forum! The general idea to improve the overall health of the betta and promote growth would be to keep the water quality pristine for the betta, High protein foods help the betta improve its help, live foods help but can contain parasites so its usually fed as a treat. The thing is that bettas colour changes sometime regardless of health. Probably get better response and help if you posted in the Care section of the forum.

Additionally, with connection to "pristine" water I would reccommend picking up some Indian Almond Leaves. These are dried leaves that will tan the water to make it look like tea but it keeps the water natural and helps the fish ward off bacterial illness and achieve optimal proactive health.

You can order Indian almond leaves (IAL) online. But I also find them in the hermit crab section of my local big name pet shop. They come in sealed packages and are really nice. Also, many people on here seem to use organic rooibos tea bags in a pinch; just make sure pure rooibos is the only ingredient. If you can't find any of these, you could get some Attison BettaSpa or Amazon black water extract.
