How can you tell how old a betta is?

I've had my betta for about 2 weeks now, he's completely healthy and an avid bubble nester. I was just wondering about how old he is... Is there any way to tell? Here's a picture- I'd love to know what yall think!
Oh and I ended up choosing the name Chuck Bass for him- not just Chuck but Bass also- I have a major love for the TV show Gossip Girl and I've got a girl betta named Blair.. and if anyone knows the show- then you'll understand! :)

There are no tricks that I know of.

Where ddi you purchase him from? Many bettas, unless purchased from a breeder, are at least 1-2 years old already.

petco usually sells them pretty young, so does petsmart

Defiantley not true. Most bettas from any petstore are at least 1 year old already, and some have maybe been at the actual store for months.

I think if the fins are really long then it means that they are older. If the fish are really small then they are younger.No one can know for sure unless you get them from a breeder.

The only way to tell for sure is to cut it in half and count the rings.
