stupid Question, but flaring?

How do you make your bettas flare? i can't get mine to, (i have only tried putting a mirror up and lightly(!) tapping tank) What is a way to make them flare with out feeling like a meany butt? lol

I wouldn't tap the glass trying to get him to flare. Glass tapping is very stressful to fish. If you hold up a mirror and he doesn't flare it just means that you have a smart betta.
My first betta (betta 1) never flared, no matter what was going on around him. I held up a mirror to see what would happen and he glanced over and continued on his way. I added a second betta (separate tanks, side by side) and had to set up a divider so they couldn't see each other. Betta 1 goes nuts over betta 2, flaring and swimming straight into the glass to attack betta 2.
I'd just say you have a smart boy that isn't fooled by the mirror.

Lol, i only tapped the glass once so i don't feel horrid lol
Neither of the two i can get to flare. My oldest one (I got like a week before) he will just stare at a mirror, won't move and will follow it, and then when you remove it he will swim in a circle and then just rest, kinda like he was looking for it, and now is waiting

My other one, i haven't tried it yet. He isn't seeming to adjust as well (doing better, maybe its just the fact he is little that makes me think he isn't doing as well) so i don't want to freak him out anymore... I wanna get a pic of the little one flaring for on here because he is Gorgeous when he does. The other one... i haven't seen him flare since he was at the petstore... other than at my dad once lol, they don't like him, no clue why though.

I guess i could try to put them next (not in the same tank) to each other and see if that works...

Just get ready with a divider or partition if you do this. I'm not kidding when I say my betta slams into the glass going after the other one. You'd think my guy was trying out for the UFC with the fury he unleashes!

My guy loves to flair out a his image in a mirror. He just goes wild!!! I caught my nephew tapping on the tank and JC not only flaired but he also jumped up like he wanted to take a piece out of Matt. lol The only other time I saw him flair was when I was a couple of hours late feeding him. He knows when he get fed and was pissed that I was late.

Two of mine flare and the other 3 don't. My female won't flare either. I saw a little female last week at Petsmart that flared at her neighbor and acted like she wanted to beat the daylights out of her. lol

My guy flares every now and again. He does it when he sees his reflection on the sides of his tank. I also have this glade light show thingy i put on once in awhile and he goes crazy over that. The other day i was watching him and he kept flaring at me..i couldnt figure it out...i went to change for bed time and he didnt do it anymore...i think he didnt like my shirt lol.

If it was a brightly colored shirt, maybe. Mine flared at earrings. lol
