Another Sick Betta...

The past few days my betta's just been laying on the bottom of his tank and not really eating. His tank is at about 74*-75* and it's a gallon and a half. I've given him a pea but he won't touch it. He'll flutter about when you bump the bowl or something, but I'm worried about him. He lays mostly on his side, if it's any help. The water quality is good, also. His fins are intact, none of his scales are raised, and his color is decent. Please help me!

The first thing that jumps out at me is the temp of the tank. Bettas require at least 78, I keep mine at 80. To me that would explain his sluggishness. Try raising the temp slowly up to 78 and see if that helps. Have you tested your water parameters with a liquid test kit??

No, but I have tested them with a paper strip multi test, and everything was fine. I'll try warming his water up, and post the results.

The API master test kit is usually what is reccommended because the strips aren't very accurate.

The test strips are not accurate at all, so I'd suggest that you buy a liquid kit and retest just to be sure. What is your maintenance schedule?

Well, he's dead now so I guess it doesn't matter? )= I even heated up his tank (slowly, of course).

Um, I did two 20% water changes a week, and got rid of any uneaten food or poo as best I could between the changes.

Poor Skittles D':

I'm really sorry to hear this. Sometimes despite our best efforts these things happen. It's a complete & total drag. Poor Skittles, RIP.
