The footprint of a 5.5 or 10 gallon tank is rather small. A 5.5 gallon standard tank is 16 x 8 x 10 inches. A 10 gallon standard is 20 x 10 x 12 inches. They're only a little bit larger than a standard fish bowl.

The small heating pad works well from what I understand. It has a built in thermometer. It works like any other normal aquarium heater its just not adjustable and where it keeps the water is what you want for a betta anyways.
