Just some things that com to mind:
- API master liquid test kit
- gravel siphon
- pure ammonia
Your tank is going to cycle no matter what, but its better not to subject your fish to a cycle. There can be ammonia spikes which can severely hurt, or even kill him. This is the guide I use: http://http://www.aquariumadvice.com...ng-148283.html
. If you still decide that you don't want to do a fishless cycle then your going to need to do more than weekly water changes. Almost daily at some points in your cycle.
NLS can be bought at PetCo or some small fish shops.
I've heard of members using those mirrors before, but I have no experience with them. I know that you aren't suppose to leave them in all day, and when you do put them in they shouldn't be there for more than 5 or 15 minutes.
Here are some optional things that are handy to have around:
- frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp
- Indian Almond Leaves
- API stress coat
