Question Fish Abuse or normal

so i recently saved a betta (ernest)from pet smart and i didn't know how bad they really treated their fish until the lady who was the primary care taker told me how often the feed them she told me the feed them one pellet twice a week Wednesdays and sundays also the woman gave me the brand of food they use and i immediately noticed something strange with the feeding schedule so i decided to read the instructions on the back of the food and it told me to twice daily ..... i never would have expect something like that i was truly astonished or is this normal like i feed ernest twice daily . i don't even strictly feed him pellets anymore i swiched to frozen brine shrimp and blood worms

Feeding schedules are developed based on each fish individually. I have a crowntail who has a bloating problem, so he only gets fed every other day. But I also have a plakat who is a bottomless pit, so he is fed a larger amount every day. And then my veiltail needs his food crushed, so he gets fed once a day with crushed pellets.

I agree that one pellet twice a week is sparse, and I would recommend feeding more, but I have had fish go weeks without eating and still be fine.

who knows what fish abuse is it's so dumb there should be a category in the law that protects fish too not just mammals and some amphibians, and reptiles

That certainly doesn't sound like enough food, but maybe they did that in the store so they wouldn't pollute their cups as much.
