Beta likes to Partol + random question.

My betta seems to be obsessed with patrolling back and forth at the front of the tank for awhile and then going and resting in the back on a plant. is this normal behavior or is he agitated?

Also when siphoning water is there a better way to getting the suction going than sucking the water though the tube, the tank water isnt the tastiest

That is what some Bettas do, I have one that did that seemingly endlessly until he was moved to another tank, now he's more chilled out.

I don't know how big your tubing is but you might be able to use one of those suction bulbs or a turkey baster. I've heard some people fill the tubing with water, covering both ends, put one end in the bucket & the other in the tank & it should create the suction to start the flow when you release the end in the bucket. I hope that makes sense.

He basically does all day untill its dark enough for him to decide to stop.

He might see his reflection. It's healthier for him if you find another hobby for him. Maybe get a background for the tank- you can make one or buy one. And then put plants against the glass so he cannot pace. It sounds to me like he might be doing it out of boredom/sees his reflection.

If it's within your means, petsmart sells these really cool vacuums with a pump so you don't have to suck up the water. It works really good and they come in a couple different sizes.

wouldnt a mirror just be the same as him seeing his reflection in the glass?
also the amano shrimp would likley be a bad idea untill I get my cycle up and running correct?

Put your finger over one end of the tube. Add some water to the tube. Put the open end of the tube in your tank and release your finger from the bottom of the tube (make sure you're over the bucket). The water in the tube will start a vacuum and pull the water from the tank with it.

Well you can train him to respond to a mirror so that YOU control his exercise, rather than him obsessively pace against the reflection. After 5 minutes or so, take the mirror away and he'll soon learn that he interacts with you for that sort of thing.

Hi screwball 69, my male betta Rusty does the same thing, he sees his reflection on the right side of my tank (see picture) and pecks and flares; thinking its another betta entering his home. I got him the floating log earlier today but he hasn't taken a liking to it. I may return it and get one of the background clings I saw today at PetSmart.

I do want either your opinion or some others from the community.
Let me know what all of you think?
