Hello! this is my first post!
I'm Zac. I used to do a lot of breeding SA cichlids, loaches, and plecs, and even wrote on it. I got out of the hobby a few years ago. I've wanted to do a tank for a while, but just do not have the time for a tank of any reasonable size. I was in a PetSmart today to get hay for my rabbit. PetSmart got Smart apparently, as they put the bettas in a main aisle that virtually everyone travels. I walked by and saw they had dragons, which I would not have expected them to have to begin with and I've always really liked them. So I took a peek and saw one of really unusual coloration. The fish looked healthy (as much as I hate those small cups, in the case of this being PetSmart, it is probably better than the community tanks where diseases run rampant) and so the coloration was cool enough for me to take him home. I say "him" as I believe all PetSmart sales of dragon bettas are males-only.
So I took him home, set up a 2.5 gallon I had, popped in some gravel and a heater, a bacterial additive, some trace minerals, matched the water parameters to the water he came in, and acclimated him. So here I am. I'll probably add a small in-tank filter and something like anubias and some driftwood, maybe pick up some NLS, but I wasn't about to pay $7 PER PLANT at PetSmart nor was I going to pay their price for in-tank filters or good drift wood that were 2-3x that of online.
I looked on the site and the closest thing I can find is the 'pineapple' color, but that isn't it. He is literally almost pearl white with black outlining on the scales. I love the Black/White Dragons, but I don't think this is it as the pattern is so different. Any insight? I'm kind of curious. Thanks in advance!
