old school method: few weeks
seeding and multiplying: a week give or take
or you can just get a cycle starter product and follow the instructions.

but as always monitor your ammonia levels and do more regular water changes. a betta doesn't really put out that much waste but keep an eye on things

between a month to a week. simpler to buye a product

get material like gravel from your 10 and dump it in the clean one. the bacteria will multiply from there

If I bought a product, do they work by having the new filter in the newly cleaned tank?

I was wondering how long it would take if I put the filter in the 10 gallon.

I would give it a few days.
and get some API Stress Zyme. that'll speed it up

the products are funny, some work better than others but the API one is good.

glad I could help. so seed the filter with the 10, fill up the 5 and dose it with 1.5x the dose of zyme to give it a kick
