Breeding DragonScales (question)

I was curious if anyone has ever bred dragonscale bettas? It's something I might want to try in the future but I don't want to do it if it's bad for the betta. I've noticed a lot of dragonscales get scaling around the eyes, does anyone know why that happens? Any information on breeding dragonscales would be great

I read that dragonscale a can go blind because of the scales around the eyes.

I've heard that too and I would hate to do that to my fish. By the way your photo is beautiful. Did you breed him?

It can happen, usually more common in whites.. but otherwise breeding dragonscale is just like breeding the non dragonscales.. I've bred dragonscale before, but mainly to non dragons.

Yes and no.. usually with one parent being one and one who isn't you'll get some dragon scales in the mix, and at the least most will have a little thicker scales.

You'll get some non dragonscales and some dragonscale geno (not full coverage but some scaling). When breeding dragonscales, you have to be really careful and not breed fish with scales over the eyes or tumors, or parents/grandparents thay had those issues.

Thank you. I did try to breed him but he is too small and immature. I am going to grow him out a it more then try again.

Maybe sometime I'll give it a try. Do you have any pictures of mixed Dragonscale X Non dragon scale?

This is one of mine. She's basically a marbled mustard gas with Dragon scale patches. She has a cool starburst in her tail, a few body patches and right behind her eyes are patches.

She will be bred to a loud colored full Dragon scale marbled male. His fins are messy but he's got the color and pattern I want. She doesn't have impressive color but her fins are better by far.
I know I won't get the full coverage he has but I'm aiming for better finnage and loud color.
