Angry Moss ball

I'm insanely anger with Petco. I went to go and get myself a java moss ball. So i was looking through the tanks seeing the healthiest fish with moss balls in their tank so my fish wont get what they have. Bu t i do QT it for a week. I asked the man if it was pure moss. No styrofoam on the inside or anything to fill it up because it was floating, TIED to a weight and wrapped around the moss. So i was like what the heck, why not. So i got it put it in it's QT tank, i squeezed it thinking it just need to soak up some water. Wrong. There is something inside, hard, felt like a rock..Is this normal? Was i just fooled by Petco or is this how it is??

To me mine feels soft when I squeeze but it is a little dense but not at all like a rock.

OMG FishyFloorzack, just let it be lol. If it is an actual plant, I don't see why a rock in the center would matter. :) Just purchase from a different LFS next time. I don't ever buy anything from my Petco/Petsmart. They are often over price. Well, unless it's the dollar/gallon sale or if it's on sale hahah.

You can cut it if you life, just a small slice and it will reform as it grows. Many actually cut it open and then tie it to a piece of driftwood because it is a type of algae and then it grow out, not up which is nice for a carpet!

Either way, it will be fine ^_^ and yes some moss balls do float if they're not saturated enough

You got one of these fake moss balls:

I can't believe they sold you one already in use! I would complain if I were you.

Actually sometimes they just take Java moss and wrap it into a ball shape and call that a moss ball and literally is a "moss" ball but it's not a Marimo Ball which is a type of algae as stated before. So technically yes, they did sell you a "Moss" ball, just not the type you wanted.

You can still take it back in exchange for something else or store credit or something.
