Males and Females

I have a question. How long can males and females live in the same tank? Can it be indef, or do they need to be separated at some point?

Its not a good idea to house males and females together. They should only be put together for breeding purposes.

Welcome to fishforum!

To answer your question, the ONLY time a male and female should be housed together is after proper conditioning for breeding, and only while the spawning takes place.

Thank you! I was just wondering, I had been thinking about getting females and wondered if it was safe for them to live with the males. But thank you for your advice... :D

You can house females together but only in a 10 gallon or larger. It has to be heavily planted, with lots of caves and places to hide. Females can be aggressive, too. They''ll fight for awhile, until a pecking order is established. They have to watched very closely during this time.

You need at least 4 to spread out the aggression.

You could probably have 4-6, depending on how much room you have.
