I believe one possibility that I read is the plants might be to hard on his fins. When u change the water do you use a regular net? Becuase that may also cause an issue

Could you take photos?
It is probably more stressful taking him out for a water change than it would be leaving him in, but is there a reason you do this?

Please also post your parameters :)

There could be a few things; fake plants, other fish, filter intake/outake. Betta's fins are super delicate so they rip very easy.

To keep him healing I suggest you go grab some Stress Coat water conditioner to use at your water changes and just keep up on water changes. On a 10 gallon, you should change the water twice weekly to keep him from getting fin rot, otherwise once a week is fine

He could be flaring excessively causing his fins to rip, he could be biting them himself, the guppies could be biting them, or if you have a filter, he could be getting them stuck in the intake valve.

Curious, why do you take him out when you do water changes? If you have live plants and/or a filter, you should never have to do a 100% change so there's no reason to take him out, especially since you have a 10 gallon tank.

oh the reason I take him out is, I now have a fear of sucking him up through my gravel vac because that happened once and it scared the living daylights out of me oh and I only do 20%-50% water changes every sunday
