I would get a water test kit. The one that I have is API Freshwater Master Test Kit.
I bought mine at PetSmart. I don't know if there is a PetSmart, Petco near where you live.

Check to see if the water parameters are off. If they are, then correct them. It could be your water quality is making your betta fish not well.

Firstly just spoke with my friend she tested my water and said everything was normal as far as water quality is concerned. My tank is 1 gallon (as recommend by the pet store), tank is between 76-80. No filter, it is heated, lives by himself, I geed him Auqeon Betta food and occasionally blood worms. He is feed 3-4 pellets every other day. I change his water once a week. I do a 100% water change, I generally add a water conditioner to a bowl of tap water approx 24 hours before a water change. His appearance hasn't changed, he is acting very sluggish in between 'freaking out', the symptoms started Wednesday morning. I haven't started treatment. My fish got I'll about a week after I got him but the lady at the pet store said the tank was just cycling and he was fine after that. I have no clue how old he is...I got him 3 months ago.

I think you should just start changing the water more frequently. In a 1 gallon tank ammonia builds up fast. In a 1 gallon tank that has substrate and decorations there is less water and it builds up even faster. You should try at least one 50% and one 100% weekly. Does it look like he has fin rot or anything like that? It's just weird that he is acting like this. Could be from the different lighting or something too.

Question

Is his tank decorated? I am wondering if one of them is scaring him in some sort of way? Just remove one object and see if that calms him down? Just a hunch

If you have any new decorations or plants I'd remove them to see if he feels better. Not only could be he be stressed due to the placement and arrangement of the items but they could be leaking some sort of toxin into the water.
