Please help with possible parasites?

I made a thread I made in betta care not long ago, but I am starting to get more worried and so decided to post here. I'm sorry if that's not allowed, please let me know if I am doing anything wrong. I haven't filled out the emergency form because I only just put him in his tank today and only just brought him home yesterday (did a 50 percent water change today if that's relevant), but he had these one of these stringy things in the cup he came in as well, so whatever it is it has nothing to do with the tank. Here is the thread:

http://www.bettafish.com/showthread.php?t=220674

My dog got a few licks of the water he came in a few hours ago. If it is a parasite I don't know if a dog could even catch it, but this is only my second day of having my first fish and I am a bit paranoid. If it's just poop I will smack myself. I could be totally overreacting, but I would really appreciate any help, thank you.
