Identify this Betta?

My betta died a while ago, so I decided to pick up someone new from walmart, and I found this one. It was in a cup labeled female betta, so a female veiltail... But doesn't something seem a bit off with this one? lol so can I have help?
Is this betta a male or female?
What type is it?
Sorry for the terrible pictures... I can post more later :P

I'm almost certain it's a male salamander HMPK. Beautiful! His fins are a little tattered, warm clean water will fix him. (:

HM salamander pK pretty sure its female. But could be wrong. But for sure salamander PK. Most likely HM. and elephant eared. Awesome find!

A female to me, but she looks very stressed out.

Female? I'm not sure though, haven't gotten very good at telling the HMPK or PKs or the shorter finned ones apart... I know I know... should be simple enough. But not for me!

I'd say female, judging by the lack of a visible beard... though it's possible the beard fins are being obscured by those big ol' elephant ears!

Beautiful find, either way.

Not flaring, so the beard wouldn't be visible. And females have beards too.

I would say female based on form, but a better picture would help.

I have been looking for one of these. It looks like a Female HMPK Dumbo. I bet with time you will see her pectoral fins get a bit longer they look damaged right now.

nice find.
