Betta vs water filter current

Hey everyone,

I recently moved my Betta fish to a 5gal hex tank with a filter and a heater. Whenever the fish comes up for air he struggles against the current of the filter. This seems to stress him quite a bit. Is there any way to tone down the current? Should I just leave the filter off and turn it on occasionally?

Thanks for the help.

Try a whisper filter for 1-3 gallons. there should be less current. but you might have to change the water more often
